4 Seasons of Camping in France

Published: Jan 15th, 2010 | Author: admin Add Comment

Many people might consider themselves to be fair-weather campers, believing that camping holidays should be saved only for the sunshine of the summer months. But camping in France can make for a fantastic holiday all year round, with each of the four seasons offering something different.

Autumn

Everyone associates the autumn with the leaves turning a wonderful colour, before they eventually fall from the trees completely. It’s also seen by many as the last opportunity to go camping in France, before the colder weather really sets in. Areas such as the Ardeche are simply full of forests, and can promise some fantastic autumn walks, kicking up the leaves as you go. However, why not make the most of the trees becoming bare by attempting some of the forest trails up in the trees at Vert-Tige Parc. Safely harnessed, you can take to the trees and tackle any one of the five trails that feature cargo nets, rope bridges, zip wires and various other obstacles. Where better to view the forest at its autumnal best than up in the trees themselves?

Winter

Perhaps the quietest of the seasons in terms of camping in France, winter is actually an ideal time to take a camping holiday. With the campsites less busy, you can pick your favourite pitch and enjoy the peace and quiet. If you particularly enjoy a good snowfall in the winter months, head towards the Alps where you will find skiing and the opportunity for snowball fights galore. Close to the ski resort les deux-Alpes, lies the sleepy little town of Venosc. This mountain side town is well known for its crafts and is the perfect place to get in some early Christmas shopping. There are plenty of walks to take around the nearby mountain lakes but if you would rather enjoy the view the easier way, the Venosc cable car will take you up to the heart of les deux-Alpes, where you can enjoy the spectacular snowy scenes looking down on the slopes below. Published: Jan 14th, 2010 | Author: admin Add Comment

If you are a person who likes travelling, spending precious time with friends and escaping into nature, then try tent trailer camping. Camping trailer tents are especially created to fit your needs. If it is the first time that you have gone trailer tenting then it may be a good idea to go to your local dealership and get some good practical advice so that your trip goes a little smoother.

Trailer tent camping can be very fun if you are doing with your friends and it can have no fun at all if something dangerous happens to you so try to follow all the safety guidelines that your local dealer or owners association outlines for you.

It is a lot of fun to go to the seaside with a trailer tent and is a good variation than staying in a hotel. You get the freedom of the outdoors and often get a beautiful scenic view that can be difficult to get in a hotel made of concrete and congested into a resort with a lot of other shabby buildings. You might be surprised that a bigger tent can have a ton of benefits, but if you’ve only looked at the expense of them, then it’s likely that you’ve not been looking hard enough. Large camping tents are great for a few reasons and considering their size, their cost is quite affordable. Compared to regular accommodation, an eight person camping tent pays for itself over and over again.

1. More Room for Longer Camping Trips

Even if you don’t have a large group camping with you, you will probably find that an eight person camping tent offers you the extra room you need to be able to stretch out, spread out your gear and get to living in the wild. See, these big tents can offer the room you need to be able to sleep on one side, or the middle and make sure that all your things are stored safely inside the tent while you’re not using them. Even if you’re only camping with one other person, you will find that these tents offer wonderful space for you. (more…)

MOLLE Gear – Great For Traveling

Published: Jan 12th, 2010 | Author: admin Add Comment

I am a big fan of traveling. I don’t like to carry much which is why I only pack what I need; survival kits such as first aid kits, spare clothes and various other goods depending where I go. This is why I am a big fan of MOLLE gear. MOLLE gear is equipment used to carry essential items; they are very lightweight and let you travel freely without carrying too much. This is especially useful for me when I go camping and when I go on more adventurous trips. I do not need to carry as much and do not enjoy carrying too much. As a result, I have become very fond of MOLLE gear and how useful it is when I go travelling.

MOLLE gear was made to carry that which was necessary without slowing you down. It was originally only available to the armed forces: now they sell it to anyone freely which is great for hikers such as myself. As a result, the quality is excellent and made for tough conditions. This is why the gear is so useful when going camping: when you camping, you are in the wilderness and constantly exposed to different weather conditions which you have no control over. You need to have top quality material that won’t get damaged by the elements so easily. If it is poor material, then it will get damaged and your Necessities could very well get damaged, or lost: if you lose something critical, then there will be a serious problem. (more…)

Camper Trailers are a vehicle which provides a place to sleep which is more comfortable and safe than a tent. It gives an option to the people to have a home away from home during their vacation. These are best for people who love traveling frequently but at the same time desire the homely comfort.

A Camping Checklist to Get You Started

Published: Jan 10th, 2010 | Author: admin Add Comment

When you’re camping, it’s important to have some essentials with you. It’s a good idea to put a camping checklist together to make sure you have everything you need. While there are some things that you may need for some types of camping, but not for others, you should always have a list as a guideline so that you can make sure you aren’t forced to do without anything (such as food), and will be able to have a fun, relaxing, well prepared trip.

Many people don’t know exactly what they are looking for in a camping checklist, because they aren’t sure what type of camping they will be doing. That’s your first step, to recognize how much carrying space you will have. For instance, if you’ll be hiking to your destination, then it’s unlikely that you will have the space you might have if you were to back your vehicle up to your camping spot. It’s important to know that this is a general list and can be modified to meet your individual needs, but this camping checklist should help you to get started on your camping adventure.

* Camping Tents – you will need a tent of some kind and make sure you have everything that goes with it, such as extra stakes, a tarp and possibly a shade tarp and mat for the entrance of your tent.
* Sleeping Bags – At the very least, you will need a sleeping bag and pillow of some sort. If you’re able to bring your vehicle, you may want to consider a sleeping pad, cot, or air mattress.
* Water – You must have a way to get fresh water, so if you’re backpacking, this means a water filter in some cases, but if you’re hitting a campsite, where there is water provided, jugs will do.
* Cooking Equipment and Camping Food – You should also have food, a cook pot and a camp stove, which can be as complicated or as simple as you need. If you’re backpacking, consider food items which will not spoil and are easy to carry and cook, but if you have the luxury of being able to carry a cooler, feel free to pack your food and drinks in there. Consider ways to clean up your supplies when you’re done and don’t forget plastic baggies for your garbage. (more…)

RV Types – Described and Explained

Published: Jan 9th, 2010 | Author: admin Add Comment

The several categories of recreational vehicle (RV) types will be explored. Each type of RV will be discussed in terms of what it is and some of its features. There are basically seven types of RVs, with many makes and models available for each type. The seven types are:

• Pop-up
A pop-up camper is a 2 wheel unit that can be towed behind a van, pickup truck, or SUV. It is soft sided, collapses down for towing, and cranks up for camping use. It would have a sink, stove, and small refrigerator. A pop-up would most likely be used for weekend outings and vacations, sleeping four fairly comfortably.

• Truck Camper
A truck camper attaches in the bed of a pickup truck. It is generally a hard sided unit, but some have soft sides that require the unit to be cranked up for use. It would have a small kitchen, furnace, A/C, and sometimes a bathroom. A truck camper would again most likely be used for short duration outings as the interior is small, sleeping 2 comfortably.
