Palmdale, a small town of less than 200,000 people, is located in Los Angeles County, a few hours northeast of the city. It is far enough away from the city to have quaint charm, but close enough for a day trip. Without the distractions of interstates and highways, Palmdale is able to capture the small town feel.

The terrain of Palmdale is great for golfing. There are three main golf courses in the city and surrounding vicinity, as well as plenty of pro shops and clinics. If you are a golfer, Palmdale is a town you certainly do not want to skip.

Desert Aire Golf Course is a regulation size 9-hole course, in Antelope Valley. This course is great for the whole family, from novice to professional. One of the cool things about Desert Aire is the House of Golf pro shop that also has a golf simulator.

The Nullabor Links is in the Australian Outback and stretches 1365km (850 miles) from Ceduna in South Australia, along the Eyre Highway to Kalgoorlie- Boulder in Western Australia’s Goldfields. Project Manager Alf Caputo was one of many enthusiastic golfers to tackle the course on the opening day.

“It’s been a fabulous journey,” he said. “It’s been a hell of a lot of fun coming across. We started five years ago with a dream and the dream has become a reality. The idea was to attract tourists and golfers who wanted to experience “the real Australia”. There are many ways to approach the planning aspect of a golf vacation. Begin by first deciding how many people will accompany you on the trip. For an enjoyable trip, combine your own planning with that of a travel agent or a professional dealing with golf tours.

Palm and Magnolia have hosted PGA tournaments and when you play there you will get a chance to see some of the high-quality shots that the pros have to make when they are playing from the back tees.

Make sure you putt on the practice greens, since these are some of the fastest greens in all of Florida, and you will easily drop a few shots if you are not aware of the speed of the greens.

When you arrive at the golf courses, you will be greeted with the world class Walt Disney World type hospitality, the norm is that they will take your clubs and clean them before they put them on the golf carts. The cards have a very nice GPS system on them that makes matching up the distance to the pin very convenient. The time you can expect to play is about 4 1/2 to 5 hours for an 18 hole course. Reasons to Take a Golf Holiday in France

Published: Jan 22nd, 2010 | Author: admin Add Comment

France is not yet internationally recognised as a golf haven. This is a very good thing. To see what I mean, you only have to glance at the crowded fairways of the Algarve and the Costa del Sol/Brava/Almeria etc. This fact, coupled with close proximity to the UK, a huge number of travel options and fantastic cuisine make France a great place to take a golf holiday.

Still need more reasons? OK. Well here we go:

France has more golf courses than the rest of continental Europe put together. 25 of which are rated in Europe’s top 100. Green Fees in France are, on average, much cheaper than in the UK. This allows you more rounds or a better class of golf course.

France is a charming country with many interesting traditions. Where else in the world would you experience this other than France?

No doubt you learnt a bit of French at school. Even the dumbest of you will have picked up ‘Bonjour’ and ‘Merci’. No? Well no need to worry about that, the ratio of English speakers to non English speakers in France is much higher than that of French speakers in England. You will find almost everyone employed at a golf course which is frequented by Brits can speak enough of the Language to get you on the first tee and a beer in your belly at the 19th hole. (more…)

Lanzarote Golf – Beat the Winter Blues

Published: Jan 19th, 2010 | Author: admin Add Comment

Lanzarote is a golfer’s paradise. Imagine sunny days, 70 degrees, a slight breeze, almost every single day. That is the beauty that is Lanzarote. Never heard of it? It’s one of the Canary Islands, off the coast of Africa. People often think that the islands are named after the birds, but in truth it comes from the Latin for dog — Canine. Probably the sailors were trying to describe the seals that used the islands as a mating ground. Those seals, are, alas, extinct.

I like Lanzarote (the eastern most of the island chain) the best because of their commitment to the environment. Those extinct seals are just one of the many examples of the way that man has adversely impacted the island ecosystem. Lanzarote cares about the native flora and fauna and they put their money where their mouth is. (more…)
