The Hawaiian Islands are made up of eight major islands – Hawaii, Oahu, Kauai, Molokai, Lanai, Kahoolawe, Maui and Niihau – a few atolls and various small islets in the North Pacific Ocean. The 50th U.S. state since 1960, its history dates back so far that it’s actually in “pre-history” and is considered an ancient, noble “sea land” by its proud inhabitants. It is unknown exactly when the Polynesian explorers first set foot on the islands but it is certain that they were the first people to inhabit it. As the Hawaiian people did not always have a written language, but instead preserved their history with chants and legends, many details of the old days are lost forever. Some of the earlier history was also lost with the deaths of the Kahunas and other learned men whose job it was to pass on the knowledge to succeeding generations of Hawaiians through those songs and tales. Nevertheless, Hawaii grew and thrived and its people remained strong.
In 1778, Captain James Cook led an expedition that landed him on the islands of Kauai and Niihau. However, Cook was not the first man to discover the Hawaiian Islands, just the first known European to arrive. Studies of the Hawaiian language and various archaeological discoveries have led to the conclusion that Hawaii was actually settled in two separate waves of Polynesian migration. Captain Cook himself was also aware that the original Polynesian settlers came from the South Pacific up to a thousand years before his time. (more…)

You will find Bali located three miles off the west coast of Java with a comparatively tiny land area of just over 5,000km; Bali could fit into Australia over 1,200 times. From the tip of Bali in the north to the end of the island in the south is only 55miles and east to west it’s only ninety miles, so getting around the island is reasonably easy and the longest drive that you would need to do in order to get to any resort would be 2 hours at the most.
The most popular Bali hotel resorts are situated in the south of the island with a couple of others along the east and west coast. Nusa Dua is the most southern resort that’s popular with visitors, although you will find other less known ones a bit further south. The roads round the coast of Bali are typically in good shape, it is when you leave the main stretch that you’ll find that the roads are very seldom maintained to any standard and are typically just mud tracks regularly impassible by 2 vehicles and you want to be cautious about folk and animals that use not only these side roads but the main roads to walk on.

Bali is located 8 degrees to the south of the equator, and hence it has a tropical climate. Bali does not have the usual four seasons, but just has just two – the wet and dry seasons. Each season lasts for about six months. Dry season is from March to August and wet season is from September to February. Though the weather does not vary that much by season, the wet season may have some downpours for an hour or so in afternoons, followed by warm sea breeze at the beaches of Kuta and Nusa Dua.
Wet season is not a bad time to visit Bali, because most of the downpours are in the mid afternoons and if you plan well, you can really enjoy the rest of the day.
Bali experiences a 6am sunrise and 6pm sunset almost year-round. The average temperature in Bali is usually around 30° C. The dry seasons are quite hot, especially in the afternoons, when the temperatures are at their highest.
