Did you ever wonder how your pet feels when you go on a vacation and leave them behind? Pets and all other creatures have feeling and they can reason as well as have concerns. Just stop and think of some of the feeling your pet may be having when you go away for long periods, of time and they are, left alone to think about all kinds of things.

Your pet cat or dog loves you and they depend upon you for everything in their lives. Food and water are the most important things of course. Therefore, when you leave and the pet figures out you are gone the pet becomes concerned. Worrying about where you are and why you have left them.

They will also worry about how they will survive if the food and water are gone because you are not there to fill these needs. Therefore, all of these things are going through the pets mind. First, and foremost is the concern for you are you safe, where are you, and when will you come home.

You must remember your pets love you and they do miss you when you leave them. Even if it is for a short period, of time they will be in a state of distress. In addition, they would prefer to be or to go with you everywhere.

While you are considering going on vacation remember that pets need vacations too. The pet needs to be with you so he or she knows that everything is ok. Moreover, you did not leave him or her behind because you do not want them any longer, or they did something wrong to cause you to leave them.

Plenty of vacation spots and resort places now that realize that people; and their pet’s vacation together for the reasons mentioned above. Therefore, there is no reason not to take you pet with you when you go one vacation.

Your pet will be just as happy as you are to get out away from the same old things and explore new things. There are new smells, things to see, and places to encounter for your pet. However, the most important things is the fact that the pet is with you the person that he or she cares and worries about the most in the world. Your pet will also enjoy just lounging around with you while you rest and rejuvenate if that is what you need to do while you are on your vacation. The activity really does not matter to your pet so long as you are there.

Are you planning a tour with your family? Is your house going to be empty for a few days when you will be away? What happens to your beloved Max, or Fluffy, or Tommy then? Have you thought who will take care of your pet when you are not there? Sure you don’t want it to be left behind, unkempt and alone in the house. But don’t fret! Traveling with your pet is allowed provided it’s of small size. So a dog, or a cat or bird can easily find itself in the airline that you are taking.

Of course there will be some restrictions, rules and regulations to follow if you want to travel with your pet. More often than not, most airlines will give you the permission to carry your pet in a carrier and place it underneath the seat in front of you. However, the rules differ from one airline to another. It is important that you find out all the necessary information regarding this before booking your tickets.

Getting the Reservation for Your Pet

Are you reluctant to leave behind Jeannie, your pet cat? Now you don’t have to. There are several airlines that allow traveling with pets. When you have decided on the one you wish to board, depending on your destination, call them to find out their rules. It is likely that they let only pets of a small size to be carried. Obviously you cannot travel with a full grown dog like a Labrador or a Doberman! Also there is a stipulated number of pets that can be carried at one go and this is strictly on a first come first serve basis. If someone is already carrying a pet in the first class, you may not be allowed! In the economy class however, about three to six pets can be carried. Don’t waste time; get in touch with the airline as soon as you can.

To Travel With your Pet

Although it is permissible to carry your pet, it is important that you follow certain rules. Following are some of them that you need to abide by:

• It is essential that you get your Tommy checked before boarding the flight. Take it to the vet within a month of traveling and get a certificate declaring your pet to be fit and healthy. No airline will allow you to carry an animal which is sick, unhealthy or unkempt. Make sure that your pet is clean, well kept and hygienic. In case the security check finds it violent, or unwell, its reservation can be canceled.

• You need to have a pet carrier in which you can place the animal and shove it beneath your front seat. Most airlines will have a supply of such carriers, but it’s prudent to have your own when you go to the airport. The carrier should be of such a size that your pet is comfortable in it. So be careful while buying it.

Traveling with your pet isn’t difficult if you follow the above steps. When you have your beloved pet around you can have a fun-filled and carefree tour. Enjoy it to the fullest!

Going on holidays with pets is often a difficult problem to manage. Very few hotels are adequately equipped for accommodating your cat or dog. The few hotels that do accept pets only allow them if they are small and on top of that often charge a high nightly fee for this service.

However, there is a good alternative way that makes it more convenient to bring your beloved pet, namely by staying in a vacation rental. By going to one of the many vacation home portals on the internet you can find accommodations that meet your criteria and that welcome your pets.

In fact, vacation homes often come with a garden, have more lenient and accommodating policies and usually do not charge any additional fee for bringing pets.

In this period of economic crisis more vacation rental owners are finding that by becoming more pet friendly they see an increase in bookings especially during low seasons when flexibility is more needed. In addition to this, pets on vacation seem to be well behaved, as was shown in a recent study by domegos.com. In fact it was found that out of the vacation home owners who accepted pets 97% never had any big issue with them.

The study also showed that it’s not only dogs and cats that accompany guests, but also more unconventional pets like parrots, birds, hamsters, rabbits and others.

Before leaving for a vacation with your pet it is best to check the policy of the visited country especially for countries outside Europe.

As for European countries, since 2003 the European passport is required for dogs, cats and ferrets. The special pet passport contains all the veterinary practices carried out, the microchip number and allows the identification of the animal and its owner.

After carrying out those obligations you and your pet can enjoy your vacation and relax in the comfort of a vacation rental.

About Domegos.com: Travelers can search thousands of pet friendly vacation rentals all around the world and property owners can advertise vacation rentals free of charge.

Pet ownership is a very large responsibility, as anyone who shares a home with an animal will attest to. From the early stages of adolescence with the hassles of housebreaking and over-abundances of youthful energy, to the daily grind of feedings, walks and cleanings, to the inevitable ravages of age, owning a pet – no matter the species – is not something to be undertaken lightly.

Part of that responsibility includes thinking of your pets when you make decisions about upcoming travel plans. No matter where you plan to go or for how long, you will need to take their needs into consideration. If you are going a long distance, and it requires you to take an airplane, you have two options. You can either risk a lot of discomfort and panic for your pet by putting them through the trauma of flying the cargo hold, or you can leave them with a trusted friend or a reputable boarding kennel. If you replace “pet” with “child”, you can see what would be the better choice. That’s not to say it’s the same situation by any means, but when travelling, you need to take your pet’s welfare into consideration.

If you really want to bring your pet along on vacation, you might consider driving instead. While this is not always practical for longer distances or shorter time frames, it does allow you not only to humanely bring along your animal, but you get a chance to see more of the destinations along the way, rather than the quick hop of an airplane that simply drops you where you need to end up. Of course, regular stops for bathroom breaks and to stretch the legs are a good thing, for every passenger, both animal and human.

In the end, where you go, how long you’ll be there, and the way you’ll travel will tell you whether your pet should come along for the trip, or stay somewhere closer to home.
