The Islands Of Hawaii

Published: Feb 21st, 2010 | Author: admin Add Comment

The Hawaiian Islands are made up of eight major islands – Hawaii, Oahu, Kauai, Molokai, Lanai, Kahoolawe, Maui and Niihau – a few atolls and various small islets in the North Pacific Ocean. The 50th U.S. state since 1960, its history dates back so far that it’s actually in “pre-history” and is considered an ancient, noble “sea land” by its proud inhabitants. It is unknown exactly when the Polynesian explorers first set foot on the islands but it is certain that they were the first people to inhabit it. As the Hawaiian people did not always have a written language, but instead preserved their history with chants and legends, many details of the old days are lost forever. Some of the earlier history was also lost with the deaths of the Kahunas and other learned men whose job it was to pass on the knowledge to succeeding generations of Hawaiians through those songs and tales. Nevertheless, Hawaii grew and thrived and its people remained strong.

In 1778, Captain James Cook led an expedition that landed him on the islands of Kauai and Niihau. However, Cook was not the first man to discover the Hawaiian Islands, just the first known European to arrive. Studies of the Hawaiian language and various archaeological discoveries have led to the conclusion that Hawaii was actually settled in two separate waves of Polynesian migration. Captain Cook himself was also aware that the original Polynesian settlers came from the South Pacific up to a thousand years before his time. (more…)

Perillo Tours is a travel company, which organizes quality tours and adventurous vacations to Italy, Hawaii, and Israel. This successful family business that began in 1945 has been running for three generations. Steve Perillo, the current head of the reputable Perillo Tours is a popular musician as well.

As a child, Perillo was deeply impressed by American music of the 40s and 50s, as that was what his parents listened to. It ignited his passion for music. Today, even though he listens to diverse genres of music, he still nurtures a soft spot for early American music.

Steve Perillo has vivid memories of his childhood; watching the famous Beatles on Ed Sullivan’s TV show, strumming away on guitars with girls screaming around them! The very next week after watching his first Beatle video, he bought a folk guitar and began guitar lessons! Travel Like a Diva Without Investing a Fortune

Published: Jan 12th, 2010 | Author: admin Add Comment

Most of us have special requests when we travel, but don’t really expect our lodging providers to be interested in these much less take them into account. Nevertheless, celebrities, heads of state and royalty can depend on their lodging providers to cater to their every whim. If Alexander Torrenegra, serial web entrepreneur, has his way, you’ll soon be traveling like a true Diva.

Alexander’s new venture, called LetMeGo.com, offers travelers the chance to upload their travel arrangements along with dates, places and special instructions to the site. Afterwards, users allow all types of lodging providers (e.g., vacation homes, Bed and Breakfasts, hotels, etc.) to bid on their itinerary. Each user can see the pricing and other data that is sent by each provider and each bidder can see other bids, but none of this information is made public; it’s between the user and the lodging providers.

There’s a lot that goes into a site like LetMeGo.com and Alex is no stranger to building such sites. A number of years ago, after observing how difficult it was for his wife to promote her voiceover services, he created Voice123.com and has since positioned it as the leading site for promoting voiceover talent. Almost as interesting as the niche he chose for this Internet venture is how he decided to build it. (more…)

Arranging Travel For a Crowd

Is the group with which you are traveling a bit too big to handle with respect to transportation? It might have been easier to book a flight to the place. If the place is a little out of the way for a flight, then it is a very effective option to book a coach to the same place.

If you are new to the term, then the coach is a bus-like vehicle that is used for the renting purposes specifically. These coaches offer great comfort and luxuries comparable to those offered in the airplanes. Being very large, they offer quite some space and can accommodate up to 60 people at a time. It is almost like a private plane on roads. If you are going on a vacation with your family and the extended family, then the hired coach is the perfect alternative if the travel is to be a long distance one where it is difficult to go directly by plane. Hiring the coach is a sure way to a hassle free vacation and can make the trip a very memorable one.

Let’s take the example of Europe; it contains so many nations in which football is followed religiously. If you have ever watched a match, you might wonder how all those people who support the visiting team got to the place. Not all of them live in that city. Each city has its football team(s). London has five; Milan, Manchester, Madrid and Liverpool have two teams in the cities. The die hard fans who follow the team to cheer them at all costs utilize the coaches as the mode of transportation. They go on singing the team anthem all along the road and might even boo the rival fans. (more…)

How to Save Money on Air Travel

Published: Jan 6th, 2010 | Author: admin Add Comment

Will you be traveling by air for your next trip abroad? If you are, you may be nervous about the costs of doing so. Any type of travel can be expensive but if you are not careful, air travel can take up a bulk of your travel budget. However that need not happen to you if you know of various ways that you can save money.

One of the best ways to save money when traveling by air is to compare airline fares. This allows you to save money right from the start. Also, being flexible with the dates and times that you can travel can also save you a bit of money along the way.

Another way you can save on air travel is to choose an airport that is close to your final destination. This is important if your hotel does not provide free shuttle service or you will need to rent a car or take a shuttle to reach your destination. Ending up close to your destination should result in savings in terms of money and time, by eliminating unnecessary travel. You may not be aware that a simple thirty minute drive may result in huge price savings, depending on the airport you land in. (more…)

Travel Doctor's Advice – Contents of Your Medical Travel Kits

Published: Dec 31st, 2009 | Author: admin Add Comment

Medical travel kits are essential especially if you are planning to travel abroad, or go on some adventures such as skiing, backpacking, trekking, mountain climbing, cycling, white water rafting or scuba diving.

There are literally so many various types of medicines to choose from, and the supplies that you would need would differ, depending on your destination and type of holiday. For example, people traveling to an exclusive 5-star European resort would require fewer medicines than those going backpacking in a developing country and would like to go scuba diving or mountain climbing.

Ideally, the contents of your medical supplies should be able to meet any emergency situation that may arise from your adventures as well as any medical conditions that you may personally be having. The best would be to consult your family doctor about the contents of your medical travel kit. (more…)

Snow or Sand This Christmas

Published: Dec 25th, 2009 | Author: admin Add Comment

Many people like to fly off over Christmas and the New Year, preferring to spend the break relaxing in a holiday resort rather than enjoying the usual festive traditions at home. Some people just don’t like the chilly temperatures and like to go to warmer regions where there’s a good chance of sunny weather. Others prefer to go to places that are fortunate to have some real winter weather and where snow makes the Christmas celebrations extra special.

In 2009 there seemed to be lots of places around the globe expecting a white Christmas and not just the typical mountain resorts in countries like Austria, Southern Germany or Italy. Places like New York and Chicago are reporting with almost certainty that they will have snow this year and in the UK and Ireland almost everywhere is reporting a better than 50 per cent chance of snow this Christmas. Even Madrid in Spain predicts a 25 per cent chance, which is very unusual in this city.

Naturally some of the best winter Christmas resorts are the picturesque villages in the European Alps. Places like Klosters and Verbier in Switzerland are classed as exclusive, which does not mean that some people are excluded from going there, but presumably refers to the cost of taking a break there, and does not make them an option for all but the very rich. Both are small villages with permanent populations of around 5000 and 3000 people respectively, but those numbers can treble or quadruple over the festive period as the hotels and chalets fill up with holidaymakers seeking that extra special Christmas holiday.
